Rowing Previews 2004-05 Season with JU Alumni Race

Oct. 16, 2004

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The JU rowing teams began the warm-up portion of its 2004-05 season as the Dolphins hosted 30 alumni from across the country in the JU Intersquad Alumni Race, Saturday morning at the Russell Boat House on the St. Johns River. The Dolphins matched up in races against random alumnus in the men's and women's Varsity 8, the men's and women's 2nd Varsity 8 while the Novice men competed against the women's Varsity 8. Various members of the program's alumni attended the event including rowers from the 1960's.

"It was a great opportunity for us to showcase our present team to those who have built the successful traditions of JU Crew," said head rowing coach Jim Mitchell. "But the greatest thing our student-athletes got out of this friendly competition was the opportunity to meet and hear stories from the people who have competed for this program since it first started in 1957."

JU will kick off its regular season competition on Saturday, Oct. 30, at the First Coast Head Race in Jacksonville.
