Women's Lightweight 4 Earns Silver at the Dad Vail Regatta

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -
The Women's Lightweight 4 earned silver and the Men's Freshman/Novice 8 finished fifth in its respective final races to lead JU rowing during the final day of competition at the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta, Saturday on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia. The Women's Freshman/Novice 8, who placed fourth in its semifinal heat, rounded out the Dolphins competing in the final day of competition.
The Women's Lightweight 4, consisting of coxswain Audrey Sefton, Kate Burke, Becky Watt, Lauren Calhoun and Julee Smith qualified for today's final after placing second in Heat 3 with a time of 8:23.83 on Friday. For the Robert Espeseth Trophy, the Dolphins finished second with a time of 8:23.46 behind first-place finisher Northwestern (8:22.83). Carnegie Mellon (8:27.32), Willamette (8:34.91), Georgia Tech (8:42.98) and Pittsburgh (8:47.59) rounded out the rest of the field.
The Men's Freshman/Novice 8 with coxswain Michelle Henry, Jess Brandt, Adam Heine, Chris Carter, Patrick Lura, Lee Richard, Greg Boccieri, Matt Steinmann and Charlie Allen placed third in Heat 4 with a time of 6:32.54 to earn the final spot in the semifinals on Friday. The Dolphins reached the final race after placing second in semifinal Heat 1 with a time of 6:51.81. In the final, JU finished fifth with a mark of 6:44.37 behind Purdue (6:33.34), Colgate (6:34.51), Marietta (6:37.27) and Florida Tech (6:42.57).
The Women's Freshman/Novice 8 with coxswain Amanda Soukup, Jessica Tuten, Lyndsay Blair, Dru Rooks, Rachael Pacheco, Kate Gout, Ashley Flood, Laura Pacheco and Robin Corbo earned the final spot in the semifinal heats with a time of 7:50.53 on Friday. In the semifinal heat, the Dolphins finished fourth with a time of 8:07.18 behind Long Beach State (7:59.69, Michigan State (8:01.15) and Lehigh (8:05.61).
