JU Rowing prepares for FIRA State Championships this weekend

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - After a two week hiatus, the JU rowing teams will face one of its first challenges in the spring as the Dolphins compete in the Florida Intercollegiate Rowing Association State Championships on Friday and Saturday on the Tampa Bypass Canal.
Other schools competing in the event will be Florida State, Florida, UCF, Miami, Florida Tech, Rollins College, Stetson, Nova Southeastern, Embry Riddle, Berry and Tampa.
JU will have a total of 17 boats competing this weekend including 10 from the men (Varsity 8, Junior Varsity 8, Lightweight 8, Novice 8, Varsity 4A,Varsity 4B, Junior Varsity 4, Lightweight 4, Novice 4 and Pair ) and six from the women (Varsity 8, Varsity 4A, Varsity 4B, Junior Varsity 4, Novice 4 and Pair).
The Men's Varsity 8 consisting of coxswain Kristen Sukolsky, Matthew D'Amico, Kyle Fitzgerald, Patrick Smith, Patrick Lura, Richmond Jones, Adam Heine, Lee Richard and Greg Boccieri will kick things off at 8:45 a.m. against Embry Riddle, UCF, Florida Tech and Florida.
The Men's Junior Varsity 8 with coxswain Ray Davis, Michael Samaha, Kameron French, Daniel Schall, Chris Carter, Sebastion Kuhn, Garrett Markle, Lucas Meers and Erich Negaard will go at 9:30 a.m. against Florida Tech, UCF and Florida.
The Men's Novice 8 consisting of coxswain T.J. Urbanek, Matthew D'Amico, Michael Samaha, Kameron French, Sebastian Kuhn, Garrett Markle, Matthew Given, Tyler Humphrey and Lucas Meers will start at 11:10 a.m. against Florida, UCF and Florida Tech.
The Men's Novice 4 consisting of coxswain Dom Iannacone, Christian Cooper, Lucas Meers, Erich Negaard and Romeo Cabanban will compete at 1:50 p.m. against Embry Riddle, UCF, Florida Tech, Florida and Florida State.
The Women's Novice 4 with coxswain Loren Caison, Kelly Burke, Claire Pirri, Jenna Barker and Tiffanie Parchment compete at 2 p.m. against Stetson, Tampa, Florida State, Florida and Rollins.
The Women's Varsity 4 consisting of coxswain Audrey Sefton, Kate Burke, Lyndsay Blair, Stephanie Bechtold and Adelina Anderson will begin at 3 p.m. against Embry Riddle, UCF, Rollins, Florida Tech, Stetson and Florida.
Last year, the Dolphins finished with eight medals which included five state championships and three second-place finishes.
