JU rowing to compete in 69th annual Dad Vail Regatta

- JU rowing will send four boats to compete in the prestigious Dad Vail Regetta this Friday & Saturday, on the Schulykill River in Philadelphia, Pa. The Men's Varsity 8, the Men's Junior Varsity 8, the Men's Light weight 8 and the Women's Varsity 4 will compete in the 69th annual regatta, which features more than 100 colleges and 3,300 rowers from the United States and Canada.

The event will showcase 498 events and 19 different race categories with qualifying heats on Friday. Schools qualify in the initial races will move on to semifinal heats on Saturday, with the event finals being held late Saturday.

The Men's Varsity 8 with coxswain Kristen Sukolsky, Kyle Fitzgerald, Patrick Smith, Greg Boccieri, Lee Richard, Patrick Lura, Richmond Jones, Adam Heine and Mattew D'Amico will compete on Friday at 10:43 a.m. against Army, La Salle, Loyola and Santa Clara. The top two finishers from six heats will compete in three Semi-Finals on Saturday (10:40-10:50 a.m.). All other finishers not placing last will move on to three Repecharge Heats on Friday (2:47-2:57 p.m.), in which the top two finishers will also move on to the Saturday Semi-Final.

The Men's Junior Varsity 8 consisting of coxswain TJ Urbanek, Michael Samaha, Kameron French, Daniel Schall, Chris Carter, Sebastian Kuhn, Garrett Markle, Lucas Meers and Erich Negaard will race on Friday at 4:17 p.m. against Lehigh, Marietta and Saint Joseph's. The top two finishers from three heats will move on the Saturday's Final at 2:20 p.m. to compete for the Ernie Bayer Trophy.

The Men's Lightweight 8 with coxswain Jessica Marchant, Stefan Negaard, Tyler Humphrey, Michael Scully, Joseph Civello, Matt Maffessanti, Matthew Given, Rick McCarson and Charlie Allen compete on Friday at 5:07 p.m. against Georgia Tech, Lehigh and Purdue. The top two finishers from three heats will move on to Saturday's Final at 3:20 p.m. for the Thomas W. Loschiavo Trophy.

The Women's Varsity 4 with coxswain Audrey Sefton, Kate Burke, Lyndsay Blair, Stephanie Bechtold and Adelina Anderson compete on Friday at 8:31 a.m. against Albany, Catholic, Georgia, New York and Sacred Heart. The top two finishers from the nine heats will move onto three Semi-Final Heats on Saturday (9:43-9:57 a.m.).
