Feb. 9, 2003

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville University senior sprinter Monique Tubbs (Boston, Mass.) finished second in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.75 at the Gator Invitational hosted by Florida Sunday at the O'Connell Center in Gainesville, Fla. Tubbs' time in the 55-meter is a new school record and the second fastest time in the country behind Muna Lee of LSU, who ran a 6.70 earlier in the year.

Tubbs, ranked No. 10 in the 60-meter in the Trackwire Dandy Dozen, finished two-hundredths of a second behind Lee, who is currently ranked No. 1 in the Dandy Dozen. Tubbs' record setting time automatically qualifies her for both the NCAA and USA Indoor Championships in March.

JU's 4x400-meter "A" relay team of juniors Andrea Pressley (Upper Marlboro, Md.) and Tiffany Wright (Lauderdale Lakes, Fla.), freshman Lakisha Brooks (Upper Marlboro, Md.) and senior Kate Clarke (Arlington, Texas) finished sixth in the finals with a time of 3:54.21, while junior Safiya Davy finished 12th in the finals of the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.03.
