Feb. 28, 2003

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville University senior sprinter Monique Tubbs (Boston, Mass.) returns home to Boston on Saturday to compete in the USA Track and Field Championships at the Reggie Lewis Track and Field Center. Tubbs, who holds the No. 2 ranking in the 60-meter dash in the Trackwire Dandy Dozen, won the 55-meter at the Husky Invitational earlier this season at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Tubbs will be competing in the 60-meter dash at the USA T&F Championships and will be vying for a spot on Team USA and a trip to the World Indoor Championships March 14-16 in Birmingham, England. The top two finishers in each event will be selected to the national team. If Tubbs qualifies for the finals, she can be seen live on ESPN2 at approximately 7:14 p.m.

Monique is no stranger to the surroundings at the Reggie Lewis Center having captured the 60-meter national and state high championships as a senior at Boston Latin. Tubbs, who is the 2001 60-meter NCAA Indoor National Champion, set a new school record earlier this season with a time of 6.75 in the 55-meter at the Gator Invitational on Feb. 9.

The rest of the JU track team opens its outdoor season Saturday when it hosts the 6th-Annual Hampton Inn/JU T&F Invitational at the Ashley Sports Complex. The Dolphins will host Atlantic Sun foes Florida Atlantic and Jacksonville State, as well as Georgia Southern, Charleston Southern, Voorhees College, Morris Brown, Warner Southern, Savannah State, North Florida, College of St. Benedict, Roanoke College and Webber International.
