Andrea Pressley Finishes 5th in the Heptathlon at Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville University junior Andrea Pressley (Upper Marlboro, Md.) rebounded from a slow start yesterday to finish fifth in the heptathlon with 4,918 points at the Coca-Cola Florida Relays Thursday at Percy Beard Track in Gainesville. South Carolina's Antoinette Wilks placed first with 5,337 points.

Pressley was in ninth place after the first day of competition with 2,841 points after finishing 13th in the opening 100-meter hurdles due to a fall near the finish line. Pressley quickly made up ground Thursday, finishing in a tie for sixth in the long jump with a mark of 5.43 meters and first in the javelin with a throw of 38.47 meters (126-2'). Pressley closed out her day with a fourth-place finish in the 800-meter dash to earn 759 points.

On Wednesday, Pressley had her best finish in the 200-meter placing second with a time of 24.78 to earn 907 points. She finished sixth in the shot put with a mark of 11.62 meters (38-1'1/2") and eighth in the high jump clearing 1.55 meters (5-1'), while placing 13th in the 100-meter hurdles after falling on the last hurdle.

Pressley and the rest of the Dolphins return to action in the field and sprint events Friday at the Percy Beard Track on the University of Florida campus.
