Track Turns In Solid Performance at South Florida Invitational

TAMPA, Fla. - The Jacksonville University track team turned in several stellar performances at the South Florida Invitational this weekend at the USF Track Stadium in Tampa as freshman Karen Edmonds (Green Cove Springs, Fla.) had a top-10 finish in the 5000-meter run and four Dolphins finished in the top six in the 3000-meter steeplechase.

Edmonds was competing in the 5000 for the first time this season and finished with a time of 18:37.84 to finish sixth, while Jen Tyler (Jupiter, Fla.) and Christina Bensi (Troy, N.Y.) finished 20th and 22nd. Seniors Tamsin Anstey (N. Vancouver, B.C.) and Laura Winn (Wilmington, Mass.), along with freshman Rachel Garvin (Denton, Texas) and sophomore Patti Jenkins (Orlando, Fla.) finished third, fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 3000-meter steeplechase.

Freshman Lakisha Brooks (Upper Marlboro, Md.) turned in a season-best time of 25.50 in the 200-meter to finish 12th, while senior Kate Clarke (Arlington, Texas) finished 19th. Brooks also placed 20th in the 100-meter with a time of 12.43.

Freshman Keiona Frenche (Riverdale, Md.) had her best finish in the 800-meter with a time of 2:21.72 to place 11th, while finishing 13th in the 400-meter with a time of 1:00.15. Freshman Lindsey Moffenbier (McDonough, Ga.) finished 13th in her only race, the 1500, with a time of 4:53.22.

The JU track team returns to action at the Atlantic Sun Championships, April 17-18, in Orlando, Fla., hosted by UCF.
