Monique Tubbs Earns Second-Straight Atlantic Sun Track Athlete-of-the-Week Honor

April 9, 2003

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville University junior sprinter Monique Tubbs (Boston, Mass.) has been named the Atlantic Sun Track Athlete of the Week for the second-consecutive week, as announced by the conference office Wednesday. The Dolphins have had three of the four A-Sun Track Athletes of the Week this season, with Tubbs garnering the last two and junior Andrea Pressley (Upper Marlboro, Md.) winning the first honor on March 19.

Tubbs, who is ranked No. 3 in the 100-meter in the Trackwire Dandy Dozen, finished second in the 100 at the prestigious Texas Relays this past weekend with a wind-aided time of 11.13, which is the third-fastest 100-meter time in the world this season under all conditions. She finished with the fourth-best qualifying time in the prelims with a second-place finish in her heat at 11.41. Tubbs holds the top times in the Atlantic Sun conference in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes.

Tubbs is also a key member of the Dolphins 4x100-meter relay team, along with Pressley, Safiya Davy (Mitchellville, Md.) and Tiffany Wright (Lauderdale Lakes, Fla.), which finished fourth in the Invitational finals at the Texas Relays with an NCAA Regional qualifying time of 45.18. Their time was just one-hundredths of a second off their A-Sun leading time of 45.17, which they established March 29 at the Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla.

JU returns to action at the Atlantic Sun Championships, April 17-18, in Orlando, Fla., hosted by UCF.
