JU men wrap up their non-conference schedule at Savannah State

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - There is no rest for the weary, but that is just the way the JU men's basketball team would like it.

Playing their best ball of the season, the Dolphins look to continue their four-game winning streak on Tuesday at Savannah State. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m., with the game being broadcast on 1010XL.

While the Dolphins would enjoy some rest, this week is a long week for JU as they only have one conference game this weekend. Not wanting to lose any of the momentum they have built, the Dolphins will jump back out of conference for the final time this season.

"This is a big game for us to keep our momentum going and to get ready for this weekend," said JU head coach Cliff Warren. "Whenever you are playing well, you want to keep playing and this game comes at a great time for us to stay in rhythm."

The Dolphins (7-8, 4-0 A-Sun) are in the midst of a four-game winning streak, courtesy of last second heroics by Ben Smith.

The sophomore guard nailed a 15-foot jumper over one Mercer defender, with another hounding his every dribble. The ball swished through the net as the final horn sounded, giving the Dolphins a 72-70 win.

Smith's shot highlighted a night when four of JU's starters finished the game in double figures - with Marcus Allen joining Smith in scoring a team-high 14 points.

Allen also pulled down 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. His first came against Concordia in the Dolphins third game of the season.

Allen's 10 rebounds helped JU battle the Bears on the glass, as both teams recorded 37 rebounds. JU has been dominant on the glass of late, out rebounding its opponents in three of the last four games.
