Fallon Heffernan Breaks School Record at FSU Relays

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Freshman Fallon Heffernan (Neptune Beach, Fla.) broke the program record for the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:58.62, while sophomore Janita Ocana (Jacksonville/Ed White) finished first overall in the long jump and sophomore Ashley Williams (Oklahoma City, Okla.) won the 400-meter dash as the JU women's track and field team claimed two individual titles at the FSU Relays. Among the other schools competing at the event were Auburn, Bethune-Cookman, Bradley, Florida A&M, Florida State, Georgia Southern, Kennesaw State, Miami (Ohio), Northern Illinois, Troy, UCF, Michigan, North Florida and Tampa.

Heffernan, who is still on pace to register for regional competition, finished second to only Alicja Czajka of Northern Illinois. Ocana, who also placed third in the 100 and 400-meter dash, leaped 18-05.00 to win the long jump. Williams finished the 400 with a time of 57.52.

Other top Dolphin performances included sophomore Stefanie Jeffers (Marston Mills, Mass.) placing fourth in the discus and sophomore Andrea Clark (Valdosta, Ga.) finishing fourth in the javelin.

JU concludes its weekend on Saturday in the final day of the FSU Relays in Tallahassee, Fla.
