The Dolphin women's cross country team opened the 2006 season with a second-place finish in the JU Short Course Duals with wins over Florida A&M, Savannah State and Stetson, Friday afternoon on the old golf course on the JU campus.

Freshman Alyssa Deal led the JU women with a time of 11:45 to finish third overall on the 3K course. Freshman Tiffanie Saxton placed seventh with a mark of 12:13, while junior Danielle Coyle came in eighth, with a time of 12:18, to round out the Dolphins in the top 10. Senior Stacey Ollar (12:37, 12th) and freshman Alison Ritter (12:54, 17th) also finished in the top 20 for JU. The Dolphin men were led by junior Charlie Allen on the 5K course.

"It was a nice opening effort and having freshmen finish as our top two runners bodes well for the future," said JU director of cross country Ron Grigg. "Alyssa and Tiffanie had nice college debuts and Danielle ran the course 50 seconds faster than she did a year ago. Our goal for both teams is to get better with each passing week."

North Florida's Sarah Coghlan won the women's individual crown with a time of 11:09. Nathan Holden of North Florida completed the 5K course with a mark of 16:42 to win on the men's side.

The Dolphins travel next to Gainesville, Fla., for the UF Cross Country Invitational on Sept. 16.
