FAYATEEVILLE, Ark. - Freshman Alyssa Deal finished seventh in the mile run to help the Jacksonville University track and field team finish well in the final day of the Razorback Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

"We produced a lot of early season conference leading marks and we showed progress," said JU head coach Ron Grigg. "I am happy with the competitive nature of this team. Our goal, as always, is to continue to improve as we approach the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships in mid to late February."

Deal ran a time of 5:10.99, which was about six seconds faster than her 10th place time (5:16.77) at the Florida Intercollegiate on Jan. 13.

"Alyssa ran a gutsy and smart race today," said Grigg. "She challenged herself to replicate her nice distance medley performance from last evening and she did just that."

Junior Danielle Coyle finished 12th in the mile with a time of 5:27.86 and Alison Ritter was a few steps behind to take 13th place with 5:29.18.

Other top Dolphin performers were senior Jantia Ocana, who took in 11th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.30. Sophomore Shaquania Lundy placed 16th in her first triple jump in more than two years after producing a mark of 35'7.75", while freshman Tiffanie Saxton finished 16th in the 800-meter run (2:29.30).

The Dolphins also took seventh in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:54.16 to round out the day.

JU is back in action on Saturday, Jan. 27 as they return to Gainesville, Fla. for the second time this season to compete in the Gator Pepsi Invitational.
