September 24, 1999

Boca Raton, Fla. - Jacksonville (4-6, 1-0) opened their 1999 Trans America Athletic Conference season with an impressive 3-0 (15-4, 15-8, 15-5) victory over defending TAAC champion Florida Atlantic (5-8, 0-1) here Friday night. With the victory, the Dolphins broke a three-match losing streak and avenged a 3-1 loss to the Owls at the 1999 JU Invitational earlier this season.

Leading the way for the Dolphins were sophomore Carrie Arago and senior Kelly Hickam with 14 and 13 kills, and 20 and 17 digs respectively. Junior Jessica Windell and freshman Brooke Ahrens chipped in with nine and eight kills respectively for the Dolphins. Sophomore setter Carrie Bosworth sparked the hot-hitting Dolphins with 42 assists as Jacksonville posted a season-high .333 team-hitting percentage.

Defensively, the Dolphins held the Owls to only 23 kills and a meager .054 hitting percentage, while collecting 62 digs and three blocks.

The Dolphins will return to action on Saturday night when they continue their road trip with a 7:00 P.M. stop at Stetson. The match with the Hatters will not count towards the Dolphins' TAAC record.
