Volleyball Team Drops Heart-Breaker To Georgia Southern

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Jacksonville University volleyball team let one slip through their fingers Saturday afternoon at the Georgia Southern Invitational as the host Eagles defeated the Dolphins 3-2.

The Dolphins (0-2) jumped to a 2-1 lead, winning game two 15-9 and game three 15-6 after dropping the match's first game 15-10. But the Eagles (2-0) refused to go away and won the final two hard-fought games with identical 15-13 scores to come away with the victory.

JU played solid offense in the first three contests, but managed just a .109 hitting percentage in game four and a -.032 in game five.

Three Dolphins recorded double-doubles, including 1999 TAAC Player of the Year Carrie Arago (Orlando, Fla.) who had 20 kills and 20 digs. Brooke Jackson (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) led the team with 22 kills to go with 16 digs and seven total blocks while freshman Kelly Ryals (Gainesville, Fla.) finished with 11 kills and 18 digs.

Freshman Radka Dimitrova (Sofia, Bulgaria) and junior Carrie Bosworth (Centreville, Mass.) each had double-digit dig totals with 10 and 12, respectively, while Bosworth had a match-high 58 assists.

Georgia Southern's Megan Lippi led four Eagles with double-digit kill totals with 14 while Erin Martin paced GSU with a match-high 22 digs.
