JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville University volleyball team will look to continue its dominance over in-state rival Bethune-Cookman College when the Dolphins open their home schedule against the Wildcats Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in Swisher Gymnasium.
JU holds an impressive 24-0 mark against BCC since 1987, including last year's 15-3, 15-5, 15-13 win. In that match, Carrie Arago (Orlando, Fla.) set a JU single-match record with 10 service aces, including seven in a row to start the contest.
The Dolphins enter Wednesday's competition 1-2 on the year after participating in the Georgia Southern Invitational over the weekend. Senior Brooke Jackson (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) leads the team with 49 kills, followed closely by Arago who has 41.
Jackson also paces the team in blocks with 20 (three solo) while freshman Radka Dimitrova (Sofia, Bulgaria) ranks second with 16. Fellow freshman Kelly Ryals (Gainesville, Fla.) has also had a solid start to her collegiate career, tallying a team-high 43 digs to go with 37 kills and eight total blocks (two solo).
Bethune-Cookman comes into Wednesday's showdown with JU 0-3 on the year. LuTasha Bradley leads the team with 12 kills while Cortina Hall is next with 11 kills and a team-best 21 digs.
After the Bethune-Cookman match, JU will remain home where they will take on Florida A&M Saturday night at 7:30.
