Volleyball Wins Fifth Straight, Defeats Stetson 3-0
Sept. 26, 2000
The Jacksonville University volleyball team extended its winning streak to five matches and remained undefeated in the friendly confines of Swisher Gymansium Tuesday evening when the Dolphins defeated Stetson, 3-0.
Junior outside hitter Carrie Arago (Orlando, Fla.) led the way with 14 kills to lead four Dolphins (7-4) with double-digit kill totals. Freshman outside hitter Radka Dimitrova (Sofia, Bulgaria) had 13 kills, followed by Jessica Windell (Dallas, Texas) with 12 and Brooke Jackson (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) with 11.
The Dolphins jumped out to an early lead, but the Hatters (1-10) did not go away in game and would not concede the win all evening. While JU led throughout most of the competition, Stetson scrapped and fought throughout the contest and made the Dolphins earn the 15-11, 15-11, 15-12 victory.
Dimitrova led the JU defense with 13 digs and three blocks. Junior setter Carrie Bosworth (Centerville, Mass.) was next with 11 digs while logging 45 assists.
Stetson's Miki Ford posted a match-high 16 kills and a .438 hitting percentage, while Amanda Lang led all players with 16 digs.
While the Dolphins and Hatters both compete in the Trans America Athletic Conference, Tuesday night's match was not a league contest. The two teams will square off in TAAC play on Tuesday, Oct. 10 in DeLand, Fla., at 7 p.m.
The Dolphins return to action on Friday, Sept. 29 when they open TAAC play against Florida Atlantic at 7:30 p.m. in Swisher Gymnasium.
