Oct. 5, 2000

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville University volleyball team will be looking to add to its six-match winning streak when the Dolphins travel to Alabama for a two-match road trip against TAAC foes Jacksonville State on Friday and Samford on Saturday.

JU enters the weekend 7-4 on the year and 1-0 in league play. Last season, the Dolphins defeated Samford 3-1 on Nov. 5 before downing Jacksonville State 3-1 the following afternoon.

"This is a big weekend for us," first-year head coach Robin Mignerey said. "We've won six straight so we have some confidence going in. But we've got to continue that high level of play and stay focused, especially since we're heading into the conference portion of our season."

Leading the way for the Dolphins is senior middle hitter Brooke Jackson (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) who paces the team with 126 kills and 36 blocks. Also spearheading the JU offensive attack is freshman outside hitter Radka Dimitrova (Sofia, Bulgaria) who set a school single-match record in the Dolphins' 3-1 win over Florida Atlantic with a .667 attack percentage with 17 kills and one error in 24 attempts. Dimitrova ranks No. 1 on the squad with a .302 attack percentage while ranking second in kills with 119.

Senior outside hitter Jessica Windell (Newport, Ore.) paces the squad with 13 service aces, while junior setter Carrie Bosworth (Centerville, Mass.) leads JU with 487 assists. Defensively, freshman Kelly Ryals leads the way with a team-best 134 digs.

As a team, the Dolphins are averaging 15.53 kills per game and a .247 attack percentage while holding opponents to just 13.47 kills per game and a .173 attack percentage.

Jacksonville State enters Friday's match 5-10 overall and will play its first league game against the Dolphins. Kelby Rumph leads the Lady Gamecocks with 190 kills and 134 digs while Eysha Ambler paces JSU in blocks with 55.

Samford, which plays host to Stetson on Friday, goes into the weekend 8-10 on the year as the Bulldogs play their first TAAC match of the season against the Hatters. Whitney Miller leads Samford's offensive attack with 196, while Ashley Fulton paces the defense with 164 digs.

After the two-match Alabama swing, the Dolphins return to action in the Sunshine State on Tuesday, Oct. 10 when they travel to DeLand to take on TAAC foe Stetson at 7 p.m. JU's next home match is on Friday, Oct. 13 when the Dolphins play host to UCF in a non-conference matchup at 7:30 p.m. in Swisher Gymnasium.
