Box Score

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Carrie Arago (Orlando, Fla.) and Brooke Jackson (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) each had 20-plus kill totals but it was not enough for the Jacksonville University volleyball team as UCF defeated the Dolphins 3-2 Friday night at Swisher Gymnasium.

The loss, JU's first at home this year, dropped the Dolphins to 10-6 on the year while UCF improved to 11-8. While JU and UCF are both members of the TAAC, Friday's match did not count in the league standings. The two teams will square off in conference action on Wednesday, Oct. 25 in Orlando.

Arago led all hitters with 24 kills while Jackson tallied 20 to lead four JU players with double-digit kill totals. Jessica Windell (Newport, Ore.) had 14 and Radka Dimitrova (Sofia, Bulgaria) had 13. Dimitrova led the team defensively with a match-high 27 digs while Arago tallied 21.

JU seemed to be on its way to an easy win after the first two games. The Dolphins hit .311 in a 15-9 game-one win and .297 in game two's 15-4 victory.

The Knights, however, would storm back and cruise to a 15-11 game-three win. JU had match points in games four and five, but could not capitalize on the opportunites. UCF would eventually win games four and five with identical 16-14 victories.

Piper Morgan four Knights with double-digit kill totals with 20. Shelly Driggers and Leyre Santealla Sante each had 14 while Lindsey Whalen finished with 12. Becca Saldana led the UCF defense with 14 digs.

The Dolphins return to action on Sunday at 2 p.m. when they play host to Morris Brown in Swisher Gymnasium.
