JACKSONVILLE, FLa. - Junior outside hitter Carrie Arago (Orlando, Fla.) earned Trans America Athletic Conference Co-Player of the Week honors today, as announced by the league office.
Arago, who shared the weekly honor with Stetson's Miki Ford, tied JU's five-game match record for service aces when she tallied nine in a 3-2 win over Bethune-Cookman on Nov. 8. Arago, who also holds the three-game match record with 10 aces, tied the record set by Amy Strasbaugh vs. Furman on Sept. 24, 1993.
Her nine aces against the Lady Wildcats helped the Dolphins set a team record for aces in a five-game match with 20. The former mark of 19 was set on Oct. 9, 1993 against Bethune-Cookman, and again on Sept. 12, 1999 against Furman.
For the week, Arago tallied 21 kills, 22 digs and five blocks in eight games. Her 15 kills against Bethune-Cookman marked the 15th time during the 2000 season that she tallied double-digit kill totals. Arago's 14 digs against Mercer on Nov. 10, meanwhile, was the 13th time she recorded 10-or-more digs in a match.
For the year, Arago has 258 kills, 244 digs, 39 service aces, 27 assists and 20 total blocks. Stetson's Ford, meanwhile, had 20 kills, 20 digs and nine blocks against Florida Atlantic and 20 kills against Bethune-Cookman. For the week, Ford averaged 4.4 kills, 3.0 digs and 1.33 blocks per game.
Arago and the Dolphins return to action on Friday, Nov. 17 when they travel to Boca Raton, Fla., for the TAAC Tournament. JU earned the No. 3 seed in the six team tournament, and will take on sixth-seed Troy State at 12:30 p.m. The winner of that match will take on No. 2 UCF at 6:30 p.m.
