JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- - The Jacksonville University cheerleading squad took home the superior team award at the United Cheerleading Association College Summer Camp in Clearwater Fla.

"This team started out on the right foot for the season," said JU head coach Mea Darley. "The team that attended has been with us since tryouts in March and is the best team I have ever coached so far. We are holding tryouts this week to complete our team and get ready for a great season."

The Dolphins took a squad of seven girls and three guys to the camp which was held on Aug. 14-16 at the Sand Key Resort in Clearwater, Fla. Joining the Dolphins were 15 to 20 cheer and dance teams that included Florida State, Florida, North Florida and Jackson State.

During the camp, the Dolphins learned cheers, chants, stunts, transitions, sideline cheers and game day material to use for the upcoming year. Each team was evaluated on how well they incorporated their own stunts and chants with a cheer that was taught that day. JU received passing marks on all evaluations along side Florida and Florida State in show material.

At the conclusion of camp, the Dolphins won the superior team award, which is given to the squad who the instructors feel performed the best overall.

"We have built such a great chemistry since camp," Darley said. "They performed great at camp and have set the bar for the future of JU cheerleading."
