The Dolphins posted three consecutive victories to win the Crispers Invitational at Swisher Gymnasium. They rallied to beat Southeast Louisiana, 3-2, in the opener on Sept. 1. Sara Bendorf led the Dolphins will 16 kills and 10 digs for her second double-double of the season. On Saturday, JU downed Georgia Southern and Lafayette to take the tournament title. Melissa Merchant was named tournament MVP after leading the Dolphins to the title, getting 10 kills and eight blocks against Georgia Southern and following it up with 12 kills and five blocks against Lafayette.

This week, the Dolphins travel to Tampa to compete in the USF Smoothie King Invitational starting on Friday.

Men's soccer

The men's soccer team finally got in the win column by posting two victories to take the JU/Nike Invitational. Senior Tommy Krizanovic scored the game-winning goal in overtime to help the Dolphins down Central Arkanas on Sept. 3. He finished the game with two goals, two assists and six points. Krizanovic turned around and scored three goals in the final day to help the Dolphins defeat Georgia State, 4-0. Junior Anton Axelsson finished the tournament with three goals and one assist.

The Dolphins play again on Friday at home against Wright State at 8 p.m. before finishing the weekend at Flagler on Sunday.

Women's soccer

The Dolphins had a marathon week with three games in five days, but they kept fans on the edge of their seast with two last second victories. Sophomore Keri Zwikker scored the game-winning goal with three seconds remaning to help the Dolphins down Florida International in the home opener, 1-0. Sophomore Angela Hulse scored the golden goal in overtime to down LaSalle (Pa.) at Patton Park on Sept. 1. Senior Michelle Kmiotek finished the week with 21 saves and two shutouts to earn A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week honors.

On Friday, the Dolphins will take on Georgia Southern at home and travel to face former National Champion Florida on Sunday in Gainesville, Fla. at 1:30 p.m.

Football Junior quarterback Chris Horton completed 14-of-26 passes for 226 yards and a touchdown and the Dolphin defense forced five turnovers, but Gardner- Webb defeated the JU football team, 49-14, on Sept. 2 at D.B. Milne Field.

The Dolphins are off until next week when they travel to face Southeast Louisiana on Saturday, Sept. 16, at 7 p.m.

Men's and Women's Cross Country

The Dolphins women's cross country team took second place in the JU Short Course Duals on Sept. 1 at the old Dolphins Golf Course.

Freshman Alyssa Deal led the JU women with a time of 11:45 to finish third overall on the 3K course, while freshman Tiffanie Saxton placed seventh with a mark of 12:13 and junior Danielle Coyle placed eighth (12:18).

The Dolphin men were led by junior Charlie Allen on the 5K course.

Men's Golf

The Dolphins started their 2006-07 campaign with an impressive 14-shot victory over UNF at the Sanctuary Cove Preview on the par-71 Sanctuary Cove Golf Course, the site of the 2007 Atlantic Sun Conference Championship.

Duncan Stewart won the individual title by posting a six-under par total of 136. He won by three over teammates Russell Knox, Matt Kleinrock and UNF's J.C. Horne.
