JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Ever been to a rowing race? Or tried to hit a fastball off of a Jacksonville University softball pitcher? Well, this week is your chance as the Dolphin rowing, softball and baseball teams hosts events during Homecoming week that will allow fans to get up close and personal with their programs.
Here is a short list of events that fans can enjoy during Homecoming week.
Rowing: The JU men's and women's rowing teams will kick off the program's 50th Anniversary on Saturday with their annual alumni race on Saturday at 8 a.m. All rowing enthusiasts are encouraged to witness the former Dolphin rowers take on the current team at the boat house. Stick around after the race to see the Dolphins participate in the First Coast Head Race for their first competition of the 2006-07 season.
Softball: Think you have what it takes to hit a fastball off a Division I pitcher? Well, you will get your chance Friday night as the JU softball team hosts Home Run Derby at the JU Softball Complex. Starting at 7 p.m., fans can pay five dollars for three swings against a member of the Dolphins' pitching staff to see if they can knock one over the fence. All fans who participate in the event will enjoy free Domino's Pizza.
Baseball: The 2006 Atlantic Sun defending champion JU baseball team is set to host their alumni weekend starting on Friday. The Dolphins kick off the festivities with at golf outing at the Queens Harbor Country Club with the coaches and former players at 10 a.m. Later that evening, the former players will return to Alexander Breast Field to take a couple hacks in the batting cage and enjoy a good ole fashioned barbeque. The weekend will culminate with the annual alumni game against the current team on Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
