JU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee receives campus awards

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The JU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) earned multiple awards at the Campus Activities Club and Organization Leadership Awards Night for its efforts during the 2006-07 academic year.

Hosted by the JU Campus Activities Office, the Leadership Awards Night is dedicated to recognizing organizations who have accomplished great things on the JU campus.

SAAC took home "Best Community-Service Event" by raising $1,400 for the American Cancer Society with the Dolphin Jocktion. The event was a student-athlete auction in which players from each varsity team was bid on by the student body.

Vice President Matt Dobbins also earned the "Dolphin Award" for his special contributions to the University in the areas of leadership and service through participation in campus activities.

"It's awesome to see how the SAAC has grown from last year," said Dobbins. "It's really encouraging to see how student-athletes are getting involved in the community with such enthusiasm."

SAAC was also nominated for "Most Improved Club/Organization" and Director of Student-Athlete Development Casey Cohen received a nomination for "Outstanding Advisor".

Other campus awards included "Outstanding Student Leader", "Outstanding New Club/Organization", "Most Effective Program", "Best Collaborative Program/Event", "President's Award" and the "Tim Shakespeare Staff Award.".

"I'm so proud of everything our SAAC has accomplished this year and it's an honor to be recognized," said Cohen. "I can't wait to see how we can try to improve things in other areas next year."
