The AXA Financial Mystery Dinner provided a full night of murder, intrigue and deception while also raising money for JU Athletics as supporters gathered at the Deerwood Country Club on Saturday evening.
The annual fund raiser for the JUAA and its Board of Directors, incorporated the play "Murder at the Midnight Hour" into dinner, which received rave reviews for the audience for the second consecutive year.
"The Mystery Dinner was a great success and we would like to thank AXA Financial & Promo Depot for their generous support of the event," said Carter Henderson, JU director of marketing and tickets. "Debi Jordan and the JU Fine Arts Department did a tremendous job with their production of "Murder at the Midnight Hour" and we enjoyed great attendance and audience participation. With the support of AXA Financial and the efforts of the JUAA, we were able to host an event that was both entertaining to the Jacksonville community and beneficial to the JU student-athlete, which was our goal from the onset."
JU theatre major students comprised the group of actors for the play, which saw a brutal murder disturb the proceedings of a 1960's style wedding.
It was the job of the attendees to decide who the murderer was. Derek Dunham was the first to figure out that the groom's mothers was the murderer and won the $1,000 first prize. Second place went to Diana Whitkop, who won two free round trip tickets on AirTran from Discount Travel. Third place was claimed by Lisa Bobbin and he took home JU season ticket packages for football, men's basketball and baseball.
The event also featured a silent auction with sports and entertainment items such as VIP Passes to the "David Letterman Show", a framed Master's Flag autographed by Phil Mickelson, passes for The Players Championship (TPC), autographed memorabilia (Reggie Jackson, Chipper Jones, John Wooden) and suite tickets for the Tim McGraw/Faith Hill show.
Last year's event used the theme "My Alma Martyr" and the top winners were Robert Negaard ($1,000), Carolyn Lott (two round trip tickets) and Marc Carlson ($500).
