JU football to air locally on Comcast this season

July 13, 2007

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - All Comcast cable customers in the city of Jacksonville will be exposed to JU football in 2007 as Comcast will air all six home games in a deal reached on Friday.

The games will air every Saturday night following the games during the season, putting the Dolphins on in prime time. Each game will also be replayed two to three times a day during the week.

With the schedule set for the fall, the two sides are in discussions for extending the programming agreement to include men's and women's basketball as well as the two-time defending A-Sun baseball champions. An announcement could come within the next month.

"This is such an exciting time for our football program and we are pleased about the opportunity to team up with Comcast to televise our home games this fall," said JU director of athletics Alan Verlander. "We feel that by broadcasting our football games, the University will receive more than three hours of television exposure each Saturday, with people all across the Jacksonville media market being able to visit our campus from the comfort of their home.

"With the addition of select basketball and baseball games, the exposure that our athletic teams will have this year will be tremendous."

All six of the games will be shown on Channel 14 on the Comcast system in Jacksonville. For fans outside of the Jacksonville area, all six home games will be broadcast via the JU Sports Network's broadband channel that will be available this season.

"Jacksonville University is such an important part of the community and we are pleased to be able to team up to bring their games to our subscribers this year," said Coby Douglass, Comcast's producer for the JU package.

Cole Pepper will handle the play-by-play duties throughout the package, with NFL veteran and former Dolphin Micah Ross serving as the color analyst. Matt Kampfe, another former Dolphin, will report from the sidelines.
