Football begins three-game homestand against Valparaiso
Oct. 31, 2007
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The JU football team returns home to begin a three-game homestand, starting Saturday against Valparaiso.
Kickoff is set for Noon at D.B. Milne Field, with the game being broadcast live on ASun.TV - with Cole Pepper, Micah Ross and Matt Kampfe calling the action. Fans can also listen to the game on 1010XL, with Barry Milligan and Frank Callihan handling the call on the radio.
JU is also looking for a repeat of its last performance at home - a record setting offensive output and timely defensive plays against Morehead State.
Since their last home game, the Dolphins have struggled to find that consistency and big play ability.
JU put up 23 points at San Diego, but couldn't find the big play on defense that could get the Toreros off the field.
Last week at Drake, the Dolphins dominated the first 25 minutes, but struggled in the final 35 as the Bulldogs piled up 42 unanswered points.
Three games remain for JU this season - three games that will give the Dolphins a good gauge of where they are at and where they need to go in the offseason.
"We want to finish this season strong to get some momentum going when we hit the road for recruiting," said JU head coach Kerwin Bell. "These final three games can give us a boost heading into the offseason."
Saturday's game marks the Dolphins facing a mirror image.
Valparaiso is similar to JU - good defense, makes a few big plays, moves the ball well, but also turns the ball over.
JU is -14 in the turnover battle this season and Valpo is -11. Needless to say, the winner of today's game will be the one that makes the fewest mistakes and the one that makes the most of its opportunities.
