Baseball Rebounds in Series Finale to Defeat Belmont, 14-6

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Freshman Zach Haniff (Bradenton, Fla.) went 2-for-4 with four RBI, while junior RHP Dennis Robinson (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) (4-1) threw a complete game, allowing four earned runs while striking out seven as the Dolphins took the series finale against Belmont, 14-6, Sunday afternoon at Alexander Brest Field. JU put up seven runs on six hits in the fourth inning and added four runs in the seventh to improve to 8-7 and 1-2 in conference, while Belmont drops to 11-3 and 2-1 in the Atlantic Sun.
JU led 1-0 in the fourth with two men on when Haniff doubled in a pair of runs, sparking a seven-run inning. Junior Chris Kelly (Sarasota, Fla.) tripled to right center, scoring Haniff and senior Clint Hart (Jacksonville/Paxon), before junior Jon Galui (Palm Beach, Fla.) hit a sac fly to right field, scoring Kelly from third and making it 6-0 Dolphins. Senior Larry-Best Berfet (Newark, N.J.) walked, then stole second and advanced to third base on an error by the catcher, setting up junior Sean McHugh's (Port Orange, Fla.) RBI single, bringing in the sixth run of the inning. Junior Alex Jamieson (Sarasota, Fla.) hit a ball into the gap in right center, scoring McHugh and making it 8-0 JU, but was tagged out sliding over the third base bag after recording a triple for the final out of the inning.
Robinson recorded his first complete game of the season, scattering 10 hits while allowing four earned runs and striking out seven. Belmont's Alex Renes (2-1) allowed six hits and five runs in 3.0 innings and was saddled with the loss.
Galui was 3-for-3 with a home run, a double and two RBI, while Jamieson had two hits, including a double and a triple. Best-Berfet added his 11th stolen base of the season.
The Dolphins return to action on Tuesday, March 9 when they host perennial BIG EAST power Connecticut at 6 p.m. at Alexander Brest Field.
