Baseball's Bats Explode in 17-2 Win Over Western Michigan

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Chris Kelly (Sarasota, Fla.) had a pair of home runs and four RBI, while four other Dolphins had multi-hit games in a 17-2 win over Western Michigan Tuesday night at Alexander Brest Field. Junior RHP Dennis Robinson (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) (3-1) allowed just one hit, a solo home run, while striking out one in 5.0 innings to win his second game in a row. Pete Clifford (Jacksonville/Providence), Sean McHugh (Port Orange, Fla.), Alex Jamieson (Sarasota, Fla.) and Orlando Diaz (Downers Grove, Ill.) all had multi-hit games, while Diaz added three RBI and Clifford scored three runs.

The win is JU's fourth in a row and improves the Dolphins to 7-4 on the season, while Western Michigan drops to 1-4.

The Dolphins put up seven runs in the first inning, one in the second and five in the third to stake an early 13-1 lead. JU batted around in the first inning with Jamieson opening the scoring with an RBI single that scored leadoff man Larry Best-Berfet (Newark, N.J.), and Kelly ended the scoring with a two-run shot to left field for his first home run of the season, staking the Dolphins to a 7-0 lead. Kelly slugged another two-run home run in the third inning to start a five-run surge that put the Dolphins ahead, 13-1.

Lefthanders Griff Occhigrossi (Brewster, N.Y.) and Shaun Kapples (Jacksonville/Paxon) recorded the first strikeouts of their collegiate careers in relief, finshing with two strikeouts each in 1.0 innings of work.

JU returns to action tomorrow to take on Western Michigan at 6 p.m. at Alexander Brest Field.
