Baseball Defeats No. 19 Florida Atlantic, 11-5

BOCA RATON, Fla. - JU scored a run in every inning from the fourth on to become just the second team in 28 games to put up 10 or more runs against No. 19 Florida Atlantic with an 11-5 win Friday night at FAU Field.

Senior Orlando Diaz (Downers Grove, Ill.) went 3-for-5 with three RBI and a solo home run, while senior Larry Best-Berfet (Newark, N.J.) had three hits, one RBI and his first home run of the season to improve JU's record to 14-13 and 5-5 in conference. Florida Atlantic drops to 23-5 and 3-4 in conference.

Junior right-hander Dennis Robinson (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) (7-1) won his sixth game in a row after pitching his second 9.0 inning complete game of the season, allowing 11 hits and 5 runs while striking out 7. FAU's Mark Crotta (4-2) took the loss for the Blue Wave.

JU took the lead for good in the fifth inning when freshman Logan James (Clearwater, Fla.) and Best-Berfet reached safely on bunts to spark a three-run inning and give JU a 5-2 lead. Freshman Pete Clifford (Jacksonville/Providence) singled to center to score James from second and an errant throw by the centerfielder allowed Best-Berfet to trot home, putting the Dolphins up, 4-2. Galui added a sac fly in the next at-bat to increase JU's lead to 5-2.

James had a career-night in just his fourth start of the season, going 2-for-2 with two runs and three walks.

The Dolphins tacked on a run in the ninth when Best-Berfet homered for the first time this season, giving JU an 11-5 lead. JU increased its lead to 10-5 in the eighth when Diaz singled in a pair of runs with two-outs to give JU a 10-5 lead.

Florida Atlantic closed the gap with three-runs in the sixth until senior Diaz tacked on the Dolphins' second lead-off solo home run of the game in the seventh to give JU an 8-5 lead.

Jamieson crushed a lead-off solo home run off the scoreboard in right field in the sixth to make it 6-2 Dolphins. JU proceeded to load the bases and Jon Galui (Palm Beach, Fla.) hit his second sac fly of the night, giving the Dolphins a 7-2 lead.

The Dolphins tied it up 2-2 in the fourth when Donald Brickle (Jacksonville/Arlington Country Day) drew a leadoff walk and scored on a double by senior Clint Hart (Jacksonville/Paxon) to make it 2-1 Florida Atlantic. Diaz moved Hart to third on the next at-bat and Jamieson hit a sac fly to make it 2-2.
