JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - JU scored four runs in the final three innings in a heroic comeback bid against No. 23 UCF, but the Golden Knights held on to win, 9-7 Sunday afternoon at Alexander Brest Field. Freshman Pete Clifford (Jacksonville/Providence) had three hits, including his eighth double of the season, to go along with two runs and two RBI, while freshman Logan James (Clearwater, Fla.) went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and a pair of RBI. Freshman Daniel Murphy (Jacksonville/Englewood) also went 3-for-4 in just his second start of the season, recording a pair of doubles and scoring a run.

Trailing 9-5 with the bases loaded and one out in the ninth, the Dolphins attempted to cap their comeback when Alex Jamieson (Sarasota, Fla.) hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring senior Larry Best-Berfet (Newark, N.J.) and making it 9-6 UCF. Senior Orlando Diaz (Downers Grove, Ill.) followed with a two-out, run-scoring single to help the Dolphins close to within two, 9-7 and Murphy singled in the next at-bat to load the bases, but UCF's Darren Newlin ended the Dolphin threat with a groundout to end the game.

Sophomore Donald Brickle (Jacksonville/Arlington Country Day) fell to 1-1 after picking up his first loss of the season, allowing 11 hits and six earned runs while striking out two in 6.0 innings of work, while UCF's ace Matt Fox improved to 8-0 while giving up seven hits and three runs with five strikeouts.

The Dolphins trailed 9-3 after a five-run seventh by the Golden Knights, but began cobbling a comeback in their half of the seventh when Clifford smacked a two-out double to center, scoring James from second and Jon Galui (Palm Beach, Fla.) laced a pinch-hit single down the line, scoring Clifford and making it 9-5 UCF.

JU took an early 3-1 lead in the second when James hit a two-run double to right field and scored on single by Clifford.
