Baseball Hosts No. 13 Florida State on Wednesday Night

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Baseball hosts No. 13 Florida State tonight in the fourth and final regular-season meeting between these squads, tonight at 7 p.m. at Alexander Brest Field. JU enters the contest with a 14-18 record, riding a five-game losing streak, while No. 13 Florida State is 23-9, losers of three of the last five games.

The game will feature a pair of up-and-coming underclassmen in Dolphin sophomore lefthander Kyle DeVries (Holland, Mich.) and Seminole freshman righthander Brian Chambers. DeVries carries a 2-4 record into tonight's game with a 3.90 ERA in five starts. Chambers is 1-0 on the season with a 6.75 ERA in two starts, earning a no-decision against the Dolphins on March 17 when JU paid a visit to Tallahassee.

Third baseman Orlando Diaz (Downers Grove, Ill.) leads the Dolphins at the plate, tied for second in the A-Sun with six home runs and 28 RBI, while freshman shortstop Pete Clifford (Jacksonville/Providence) leads the team with a .367 batting average and sophomore first baseman Donald Brickle (Jacksonville/Arlington Country Day) is batting .408 with eight doubles in 17 starts. Senior outfielder Clint Hart (Jacksonville/Paxon) has also been hot of late, hitting .407 with four doubles and riding a nine-game hitting streak through his last nine games.

Seminole sophomore right fielder Eddy Martinez-Esteve leads Florida State in batting average (.411), home runs (10), doubles (10) and RBI (38), while riding an 11-game hitting streak. Freshman designated hitter Brant Peacher is hitting .395 in 11 starts for the Seminoles, while senior second baseman Bryan Zech is hitting .336 with four home runs and 18 RBI.

Tonight's game will be broadcast live on "The Winner" AM 970 with Cole Pepper handling the play-by-play duties and Rusty Green adding color commentary. The Dolphin Pregame Show will begin at 6:45 p.m.
