Baseball Snaps Bradley's 10-Game Streak With 6-2 Win

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Junior LHP Kyle DeVries (Holland, Mich.) earned his fourth win of the season, while senior Sean McHugh (Port Orange, Fla.) went 4-for-5 to lead JU baseball to a 6-2 win over Bradley, Tuesday afternoon at Alexander Brest Field. JU (12-9) ended a four-game slide, while Bradley (10-3) had its winning streak snapped at 10 games. Junior Gordie Gronkowski (Buffalo, N.Y.) went 2-for-3 with two RBI, including his first career triple and sophomore Pete Clifford (Jacksonville/Providence) finished 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.

DeVries (4-1) allowed two runs on three hits while walking three and striking out six in 6.0 innings of work. Freshman RHP Matt Davis (Fernandina Beach, Fla.), junior LHP Aaron Parvey (North Fort Meyers, Fla.) and senior RHP Hunter Davis (Wakulla, Fla.) combined to allow no runs in 3.0 innings of relief. Sophomore Doug Fowler (High Point, N.C.) also finished with multiple hits while sophomore Preston Pehrson (Annapolis, Md.) and freshman Matt Lopez (Oviedo, Fla.) each drove in a run.

Michael Christl (0-1) was tagged with the loss after allowing three runs on eight hits while walking seven and striking out three in 5.0 innings.

Bradley jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning after Peter Malinowski drove in two runs with a double down the left-field line.

JU answered with two runs in the bottom of the third when Pehrson drove in McHugh from third with a sacrifice fly to right and Gronkowski hit an RBI single to short.

The Dolphins took a 3-2 lead in the fifth when Gronkowski drove in Pehrson with a triple down the right-field line. JU added three more runs in the sixth after Clifford hit a two-run shot to right center and Lopez drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to right.

JU will host Atlantic Sun Conference rival Georgia State for a three-game series this weekend at Alexander Brest Field. The first game will be on Friday, March 18, at 6 p.m.
