Baseball Falls to No. 20 UCF, 4-2, in Game One

ORLANDO - Sophomore Daniel Murphy (Jacksonville/Englewood) hit an RBI single in the fifth but JU baseball fell to No. 20 UCF, 4-2, in the first game of a scheduled Atlantic Sun Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. JU falls to 13-13 overall and 3-7 in conference play, while UCF improves to 24-5, 6-1.
Tim Bascom (6-1) earned the win after allowing two runs on five hits with a walk and five strikeouts in 7.0 innings. Dominic Petracca tallied his second save of the year after hurling 2.0 innings of hitless relief.
Senior RHP Brett Nagy (Jacksonville/Bolles/FCCJ) was tagged with the loss (2-4) after allowing two runs on four hits in 1.1 innings of relief. UCF jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third after an RBI double to right-center field by Dee Brown.
JU took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth after senior Alex Jamieson (Sarasota, Fla.) scored on a throwing error by Bascom and Murphy drove in senior Sean McHugh (Port Orange, Fla.) from second with a single up the middle.
The Golden Knights evened the score, 2-2, in the sixth when Marshall Bernhard hit a solo home run to right field. UCF took a 4-2 lead in the seventh after John-Michael Howell hit a two-run homer to right center field.
JU and UCF will complete its doubleheader at 4 p.m.
