JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Junior Logan James (Clearwater, Fla.) drove in three runs, junior LHP Kyle DeVries (Holland, Mich.) earned his fifth win and senior RHP Hunter Davis (Wakulla, Fla.) tallied his seventh save to lead JU to an 8-7 win over Florida Atlantic, to win the rubber game of the series, Sunday afternoon at Alexander Brest Field. JU (16-16, 6-9 Atlantic Sun) defeated FAU in a series for the first time since 1994, while Florida Atlantic (17-11, 6-6) lost its third consecutive conference series.

DeVries (5-2) earned the win after allowing four runs (two earned) on eight hits while walking two and striking out two in 7.0 innings of work. Davis tallied his seventh save in eight chances after hurling 1.2 innings of scoreless relief to end the game.

Sophomores Pete Clifford (Jacksonville/Providence), Daniel Murphy (Jacksonville/Edgewood) and Doug Fowler (High Point, N.C.) and freshman Matt Lopez (Oviedo, Fla.) each finished with multiple hits.

Trailing 8-4 in the eighth, FAU cut the deficit to 8-7 after a sacrifice fly to left by Bobby Dilberto, an RBI bases loaded walk to pinch-hitter Tim Mascia and a sacrifice fly to right by pinch-hitter Robert Yodice. Davis ended the threat by forcing Mike McBryde to ground out to second with two men on base.

FAU jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the second when Chris Atkins and Tyler Stevens scored on a fielding error by Sean McHugh (Port Orange, Fla.) at second. With the bases loaded, McBryde hit a grounder towards the second base side of the mound. McHugh ranged to his right but could not get his glove down far enough to scoop to second base for the force out.

JU answered with two runs in the bottom of the second when James laced a double to right field with runners on second and third and two outs. FAU made it 3-2 in the top of the fourth after a solo home run to dead center field by Dilberto.

The Dolphins evened the game, 3-3, in the fifth when Lopez hit an RBI infield single to second.

FAU regained the lead, 4-3, in the sixth when Stevens drove in a run with an RBI infield single to second.

JU took the lead for good, 7-4, in the bottom of the sixth by scoring four runs on one hit. James drove in a run with a bases loaded walk, Murphy hit an RBI ground out to first and two runs scored on passed balls by catcher Alex Silversmith. The Dolphins added another run in the seventh when Clifford hit an RBI double down the right-field line.

JU will return to the non-conference portion of its schedule by traveling to No. 6 Florida State on Wednesday, April 6, at 6 p.m. The game will be heard live on ESPN 1460 with Cole Pepper handling the play-by-play, while former Dolphin coach Rusty Greene provides color commentary.
