Baseball Earns Sweep with 4-3 Win Over Lipscomb in Game Two

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Junior LHP Kyle DeVries (Holland, Mich.) earned his team-leading seventh win of the season and senior RHP Hunter Davis (Wakulla, Fla.) notched his eighth save of the season to preserve a win over Lipscomb in game two of a doubleheader, Saturday afternoon at Alexander Brest Field. Sophomore Logan James (Clearwater, Fla.) finished with two hits to lead the Dolphins. JU (20-23, 10-14 Atlantic Sun) earned its first conference sweep of the season, while Lipscomb (18-23, 4-14 Atlantic Sun) was swept by the Dolphins for the second straight year.

DeVries (7-3) earned the win after allowing three runs (none earned) on four hits with a walk and four strikeouts in 7.0 innings. Hunter Davis earned the save after hurling 2.0 innings of scoreless relief.

Brett McCullough (1-4) was tagged with the loss after allowing four runs on seven hits with two walks and three strikeouts in 6.0 innings.

JU took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning when senior Alex Jamieson (Sarasota, Fla.) drew a leadoff walk and later scored on a wild pitch by McCullough. The Dolphins made it 2-0 in the bottom of the third when sophomore Justin Young (Oviedo, Fla.) hit a solo homer to left-center field.

JU added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth after a solo home run off the right-field scoreboard by Jamieson and a sacrifice fly by sophomore Preston Pehrson (Annapolis, Md.).

Lipscomb cut the deficit to 4-3 in the top of the sixth when Nathan Sensing hit a three-run home run to left-center field.

JU will next travel to Georgia Southern to face the Eagles on Wednesday, April 27, at 6 p.m.
