Baseball Battles But Falls to No. 4 Miami, 4-2

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Senior Alex Jamieson finished with two hits to lead Dolphin offense but JU baseball eventually fell to No. 4 Miami, 4-2, Friday evening at Mark Light Field. Sophomores Logan James (Clearwater, Fla.) and Daniel Murphy (Jacksonville/Englewood) each drove in run during the contest. JU falls to 21-27 on the year, while the Hurricanes improve to 34-11-1.
Cesar Carrillo (11-0) extended his career record to 23-0 after allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits with no walks and 10 strikeouts in 9.0 innings.
Junior LHP Donald Brickle (Jacksonville/Arlington Country Day) was tagged with the loss (2-5) after allowing four runs (three earned) on nine hits with no walks and a strikeout in 6.0 innings of work.
Miami jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first after John Jay drove in a run with a grounder to third and Danny Valencia drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to left field.
JU evened the contest, 2-2, in the top of the third after an RBI single to short by James and an RBI groundout to short by Murphy.
The Hurricanes took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth when Danny Robataille hit an RBI single to right after Eddy Rodriguez led off with a double down the left-field line. Miami increased the lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the seventh when Rodriguez hit a solo home run over the left-field wall.
JU and Miami will continue its three-game series on Saturday, May 6 at 7 p.m. The game can be heard live on ESPN 1460 with Cole Pepper calling the action and Travis Baptist providing color commentary. The game will also be broadcast on Comcast Sports Southeast (CSS) with Frank Forte (play-by-play) and Wicho Hernandez (color) calling the action.
