Alex Jamieson's Pinch-Hit Grand Slam Gives Baseball a 6-5 Win Over No. 27 Troy

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Senior RHP Brett Nagy (Jacksonville/Bolles/FCCJ) won his third game, senior RHP Hunter Davis (Wakulla, Fla.) notched his 11th save and senior Alex Jamieson (Sarasota, Fla.) hit a pinch-hit grand slam to lead JU baseball to a 6-5 win over No. 27 Troy in the final game of the 2005 regular season, Saturday afternoon at Alexander Brest Field. Senior Sean McHugh (Port Orange, Fla.) also finished 3-for-4 in his final game as a Dolphin. JU (23-31, 13-17) won its third series in conference play, while Troy (36-19, 23-7) dropped only its second series in A-Sun play.
Nagy got the win after allowing one run on two hits with a walk in 1.1 relief innings. Davis notched his team-leading 11th save after hurling 1.0 innings of scoreless relief with two hits allowed, a walk and a strikeout. Freshman RHP Brock Schnabel (Winter Park, Fla.) got the no-decision after giving up four runs (three earned) on 11 hits with three strikeouts in 6.2 innings of work. Sophomore Daniel Murphy (Jacksonville/Englewood) and freshman Matt Lopez (Oviedo, Fla.) also finished with multiple hits.
With Troy leading 4-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Jamieson pinch-hit with one out and the bases loaded. On the first pitch, he hit a towering shot over the right-field wall to give the Dolphins a 6-4 lead.
After cutting the lead to 6-5 in the ninth, Troy threatened with the bases loaded and two outs, but Davis got Clint Robinson to ground out to first to end the game.
Troy took an early 2-0 lead in the fourth inning when Nick Smith drove in a run with a double and Brian Bennett hit an RBI single through the left side.
JU cut the deficit to 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth when Murphy hit an RBI single up the middle.
The Trojans took a 4-1 lead in the seventh after an RBI groundout by Jared Keel and a sacrifice fly to right by Bryan Madril.
