Hunter Davis Named A-Sun Baseball Pitcher of the Week

May 23, 2005

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Senior RHP Hunter Davis (Wakulla, Fla.) was named Atlantic Sun Conference Pitcher of the Week after recording two saves to lead the Dolphins to a series win over No. 27 Troy last week, the conference office announced today. With the Dolphin wins, first-place Troy was handed only its second conference series loss in 2005. Davis joins junior RHP Neal Frontz (Jacksonville/Trinity Christian/Florida JC), who earned the weekly award twice this season, as the only Dolphins to receive the conference honor in 2005.

Following a 16-6 loss to the Trojans on Thursday, Davis sealed a 5-3 win on Friday by hurling 3.0 innings of perfect relief with two strikeouts. In the series finale, Davis entered the contest with a 6-4 lead with a runner on first and no outs. With two outs and the score 6-5 with the bases loaded, he induced a groundout to first to end the game.

After converting 11-of-12 save opportunities this season, Davis ranks second in the Atlantic Sun Conference and is tied for second in the JU single-season record book. He also tied for first in the conference with eight saves and 17 appearances in A-Sun play this season. In the Dolphin career record book, Davis moves into a fourth-place tie with Scott Porter (1996-99) despite only playing with the program for one year. Davis finishes the 2005 season leading the Dolphin pitching staff with a 2.06 ERA, 28 appearances and a .228 opponent batting average.

JU finished the 2005 season with a 22-31 overall record and a 12-17 mark in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Dolphins tied for seventh in the conference standings and were eliminated from the conference tournament in the final weekend of the season.
