JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - After beginning the season with a win, the defending Atlantic Sun Champion JU baseball team will host fellow 2006 NCAA Regional participant Bethune-Cookman for a three-game series at Alexander Brest Field starting on Friday at 4 p.m.

"This is an early meeting between two NCAA Tournament teams from last season," said JU head coach Terry Alexander. "Bethune-Cookman always has an outstanding club and we should get tested early. This will be an exciting series."

On Friday, senior right-hander D.J. Ackley will get the start for the Dolphins (1-0) against Wildcats' (0-0) senior left-hander Francisco Rodriguez. JU junior transfer Matt Gardner is slated to face Dustin Blackwell on Saturday at 1 p.m., while junior Matt Dobbins will be on the hill in game three for the Dolphins on Sunday at 1 p.m., against sophomore Hiram Burgos.

In the season opener on Jan. 30, senior first baseman Ryan McArdle went 2-for-4 with a three-run double while senior reliever Justin Young notched his first save of the season to lead the Dolphins to a 6-3 win over Florida A&M at Moore-Kittle Field in Tallahassee, Fla.

Gardner earned the win in his Dolphin debut after hurling 1-1/3 innings of hitless relief. Young notched his first save after striking out two batters in a perfect ninth inning. Ackley also hurled two scoreless innings of relief.

Offensively, McArdle, senior right fielder Mike McCallister and senior left fielder Pete Clifford each finished with two hits to go a combined for 6-for-13 with two doubles and five RBI.
