Pete Clifford named A-Sun "Player of the Week"

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Senior left fielder Pete Clifford was named Atlantic Sun Conference "Player of the Week after leading the Dolphins to back-to-back wins over La Salle last week. Clifford becomes the first Dolphin to receive A-Sun accolades this season.

Clifford broke out of his early season slump in a big way by batting .650 (13-20), with three doubles, a triple, eight runs, four RBI, 18 total bases, a .900 slugging percentage and a .696 on-base percentage. Against Georgia Southern on Feb. 28, he finished 4-for-4 in a loss to the Eagles. In game three against La Salle, he went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI to lead the Dolphins to a 6-2 win on March 3. In the finale, he went 4-for-5 with a double, a triple and two RBI to lead a 14-4 rout. With his recent streak, he has successfully raised his batting average from .194 to .382 since Feb. 18 and has a nine-game hitting streak.

Clifford leads the squad with a .382 batting average, 26 hits, 15 runs, seven doubles, a triple, 41 total bases, a .603 slugging percentage, a .475 on-base average and five stolen bases. In the A-Sun, he leads the conference in hits, is second in total bases and tied for second in doubles.

The Dolphins will travel to Florida on Tuesday to face the Gators at 6:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN 1460 with Barry Milligan calling all the action and Joel Lamp providing color analysis. The Dolphin Pre-Game show will begin 30 minutes before first pitch.
