JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Senior left fielder Pete Clifford was named Atlantic Sun Conference "Player of the Week" for the third time this season after leading the team in batting last week against Bethune-Cookman and North Florida.
For the week, Clifford batted .500 (8-for-16) with a double, three home runs, eight RBI, 18 total bases, a 1.125 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage.
Against Bethune-Cookman, he went 3-for-4 with a double and a home run. After driving in a run with a base hit in game one against UNF, he followed that effort with a three-run homer in game two. In JU's 9-8 win in 10 innings on Sunday, Clifford went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI.
Clifford is the first three-time winner from JU since Chad Hauseman accomplished the feat during the 2003 season. On March 12, Clifford also joined Hauseman (April 7 & 14, 2003) as the first A-Sun player to win the award in consecutive weeks.
He leads the squad in 13 categories including a career-high 10 home runs, 51 RBI, a .635 slugging percentage, 113 total bases and 35 walks. In the A-Sun, he leads the conference in home runs, RBI, slugging percentage, total bases and walks.
The Dolphins will next travel to East Tennessee State this weekend at Cardinal Stadium. All three games can be heard live on WZNZ, AM 1460 with Barry Milligan calling all of the action. The Dolphin Pre-Game Show will air 15 minutes before each game.
