Freshman Chuck Opachich was selected to the Ping!Baseball All-Ping! Freshman Team as an honorable mention after helping the JU baseball team to the 2007 Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament Title and their second consecutive bid to the NCAA Regionals, as released on Monday.

Opachich, who was also named to the Atlantic Sun Conference All-Freshman Team, was a catalyst at the plate after being inserted into the lineup due to injuries in the infield. In only 53 games, he finished second on the squad with a .327 batting average, a .392 on-base percentage and 16 stolen bases. Opachich also ranked third with 70 hits and 11 doubles.

"This is a tremendous award for Chuck and goes to show you what sheer will and determination can do for you," said JU head coach Terry Alexander. "Chuck has a great engine and it makes everyone around him better with every single day."

Opachich, who was also named to the A-Sun All-Tournament team, batted a team-high .381 (8-21) with five runs and two RBI during the postseason tournament, including the game-winning RBI in the championship game against Belmont.

The Dolphins won third A-Sun title and made their 12th appearance in the NCAA Regionals, including their eighth appearance under head coach Terry Alexander. JU also reached the NCAA's in back-to-back seasons for only the second time in program history (1994-95).
