Baseball adds Jeremy Gillan to 2008 signing class
June 27, 2007
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -
With one of the most successful signing classes in program history in the books, the JU baseball team found a cherry to put on top of it with the addition of catcher Jeremy Gillan (Fort Pierce, Fla.), it was announced Wednesday by head coach Terry Alexander.
Gillan, a two-year starter at Indian River Community College under Bob O' Brien, earned second team all- Southern Conference honors after leading the Pioneers in batting average (.383), doubles (nine), RBI (32) and home runs (four). He also threw out 12-of-16 base runners from behind the plate.
"Jeremy is an outstanding young man with a great deal of talent," said recruiting coordinator Chris Hayes. "He comes from a strong junior college program and fills an immediate need for us. He brings maturity, a tremendous ability to control the running game and a pitching staff. We look forward to seeing him in a Dolphin uniform."
In his prep career, Gillan batted over .500 in two of four seasons at Fort Pierce Center High School under head coach Bill Hicks. In four years, he earned all- area and all-conference honors while being named all- state on three occasions. As a senior, he batted .511 with 29 RBI and seven home runs and gunned down 24-of-27 base runners to earn first team all- conference, all-area and all-state accolades. Gillan was also named MVP of the District Tournament after helping the Cobras win a district title.
In 2007, the Dolphins won their third A-Sun title and made their 12th appearance in the NCAA Regionals, including their eighth appearance under Alexander. JU also reached the NCAA's in back-to-back seasons for only the second time in program history (1994-95).
