JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Florida Atlantic forward Mike Bell scored 25 points, including 17 in the second half, as the Owls shot 54 percent in an 87-67 win over Jacksonville Friday night in Atlantic Sun action at Swisher Gymnasium. Junior guard David Lee (Columbus, Ga.) paced JU (6-5, 1-3 A-Sun) with 20 points, while Jure Lozancic (Omis, Croatia) added 18 on 8-of-11 shooting.

FAU (7-5, 4-1 A-Sun) got nine points and 11 assists from Earnest Crumbley, while Jeff Cowans came off the bench to score 14 for the Owls, who had 18 assists and scored 23 points off 16 Dolphin turnovers. JU shot just 39 percent from the field and allowed 26 fast break points. Freshman forward Haminn Quaintance (Sarasota, Fla.) added 11 points and five blocks for JU, but finished with a season-low three rebounds.

The Owls used a 17-3 run midway through the first half to open up a 30-13 lead on the Dolphins at the 6:01 mark. JU cut the FAU lead to 31-18 on back-to-back buckets from Lozancic, but Florida Atlantic answered with an 8-0 run to push the lead back to 21 before taking a 41-25 halftime lead.

Lee and Quaintance combined for the Dolphins' first eight points of the second half as JU climbed within 11 on two separate occasions, but the Owls kept answering by hitting 17-of-27 shots in the second half to hold off the JU charge. The Dolphins got within 78-66 with 4:48 to play, but Florida Atlantic closed the game on a 9-1 run.

JU returns to action on Sunday as the Dolphins host UCF (10-2, 5-0 A-Sun) at 1 p.m. at Swisher Gymnasium. The game will be televised live on the Sunshine Network and Fox Sports South.
