Seventh-seeded Dolphins to Face No. 2 UCF In First Round of A-Sun Tourney

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville University Dolphins will open up the 2004 Sun Trust Banks Atlantic Sun Men's Basketball Championship on Thursday, March 4 against second-seeded UCF in the second game of the afternoon session, which is scheduled to start at 3:15 p.m. EST at the Curb Event Center in Nashville. The seventh-seeded Dolphins (13-14, 8-12 A-Sun) finished the regular season seventh in the league after winning seven of their last 11 games. No. 2 UCF (22-5, 17-3 A-Sun) finished second in the conference, winning six of their last seven games after opening A-Sun play 11-0.

JU leads the all-time series with UCF, 10-8, but the Golden Knights swept the season series with the Dolphins for the first time since 1999-2000. UCF won 73-63 on Jan. 11 in Jacksonville and then beat the Dolphins 78-69 on Feb. 12 in Orlando. The Golden Knights sport the top defense in the Atlantic Sun allowing just 62.3 points per game and have one of the league's top scorers in Dexter Lyons, who averaged 18.4 points per contest this season. The winner of the JU vs. UCF game will play the winner of No. 3 Belmont vs. No. 6 Mercer on Friday at 9:15 p.m. EST.

All of JU's A-Sun tournament games can be heard live on Gospel 1400 AM, The Light, beginning 15 minutes prior to tip-off with The Dolphin Pregame Show. Four of the seven A-Sun Tournament games will air live on Comcast Sports Southeast, while the A-Sun Championship game will be live on ESPN2 on Saturday, March 6, at 4 p.m. EST, with Jerry Punch and Bucky Waters on the call.
