JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Former Jacksonville University center Jure Lozancic (Omis, Croatia) has signed a professional contract to play for U.B. La Palma in the LEB1 Spanish Professional League, Dolphin head coach Hugh Durham announced today. Lozancic, who decided to leave school after his junior season because of family financial obligations, averaged 9.3 points and 5.0 rebounds per game last season for JU. The seven-foot center played in 26 games as a junior for the Dolphins, making 26 starts and averaging 23.2 minutes per contest. Lozancic was among the Atlantic Sun Conference's leaders in field goal percentage (.495) and set a JU single-game record after hitting 11-of-11 shots from the field in a 107-99, double overtime loss at Troy State. He also scored in double figures on 11 occasions, including a career-best 24 points against the Trojans. The Dolphins return three starters from last year's squad, which won 13 games and qualified for the A-Sun Championship for the sixth consecutive year, despite entering the season as the most inexperienced team in Division I. Sophomore forward Haminn Quaintance (Sarasota, Fla.) and senior guard David Lee (Columbus, Ga.) lead the way for JU, which ranks fourth in the A-Sun with 62 wins the last four seasons.
