Sept. 17, 2007
FLORENCE, S.C. - Justin Jones posted rounds of 73 and 72 to finish at one-over par and is tied for seventh after the first day of the Raines Development Group Intercollegiate on the par-72 Country Club of South Carolina.
The Dolphins are in sixth among the 14 teams in the tournament after rounds of 302 and 294 to finish with a 36-hole total of 596. JU trails Furman by four shots for fifth place.
"We didn't play as well as we could in the first round, but had a solid second round," said JU head coach Jim Taketa. "Justin put together two very solid rounds today, playing very steady golf."
Jones, a junior from Jacksonville, Fla., trails Troy's Michael McGrady in the individual competition. McGrady had rounds of 71 and 69 to sit at four-under par, 140.
Freshman Michael Main carded an 81 in his first collegiate round, but finished with a two-under par 70 to sit in a tie for 37th at 151, seven-over par.
Senior Kipp Henritzy opened the tournament with a one-par 73 but had an 87 in the second round to finish in a tie for 69th at 160, 16-over par.
The Dolphins wrap up their season opening event on Tuesday, teeing it up with Furman and Troy.
