Russell Knox wins PGA Tour Pre-Qualifying Tournament
Sept. 21, 2007
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville University alumnus Russell Knox carded a two-under par 70 in the final round on Friday to win the PGA Tour Pre-Qualifying Tournament.
Knox finished the 72-hole event by shooting 21-under par at Cypresswood Golf Club, winning by one shot over Seung-su Han and Charlie Beljan.
The win advances Knox into the first of three stages of the PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament, better known as Q-School.
Knox went wire-to-wire in winning the event, carding rounds of 66, 65 and 66 in the first three rounds before his 70 on Friday.
His final round got off to a slow start with a pair of par and a bogey before a birdie at the third righted the ship. He followed that with three straight birdies on the fifth, sixth and seventh to move to three-under for his round.
On the back nine, Knox had a little hiccup as he bogeyed Nos. 10 and 11 to fall back to one-under for the round.
A birdie at the 13th proved to be pivotal as he was able to par in to claim the title.
Knox will await his assignment for the first stage of Q-School in the coming weeks.
