Men's golf finishes 12th at the Shootout at Angel Park

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Matt Kleinrock led the JU men's golf team with a eight-over par total of 221 as the Dolphins finished 12th at the Shootout at Angel Park on Sunday.

The Dolphins opened the tournament with a 16-over par 300 and followed with a 14-over par 298 before having their best round of the season, a six-over par 290 in the final round.

UNLV won the 17-team event, carding a three-round total of 12-under par, 840, on the par-71 Angel Park Golf Course. Brandon Crick of Gonzaga won the individual title at six-under par, 207, after a final round 67.

Kleinrock opened the tournament with a five-over par 76 but finished with rounds of 72 and 73 to tie for 31st at eight-over par.

Joshua Kinsey carded a two-over par 73 in the first and third round with a 76 in the middle to tie for 41st at nine-over par, 222.

Justin Jones, the top finisher in the Dolphins' season opening event, had a 76 in the first round but rallied with back-to-back 74s to tie for 53rd at 11-over par, 224.

Michael Main, playing in his second collegiate event, had the low round of the week for JU, carding a one-under par 70 in the final round. Main opened the tournament with a 75 and struggled in the second round, shooting an 82, which left him tied for 62nd at 14-over par, 227.

Playing in his first collegiate event, Stephen Healy carded three straight rounds of 76 to finish in a tie for 66th at 15-over par, 228.

The Dolphins are back in action again on Oct. 15 at the Southbridge Invitational in Savannah, Ga.
